About Editors
Editors
This Birmingham band, formed at a college for music technicians and generally considered “the British answer to Interpol,” broke into the local Top 10 with its debut album The Back Room (released in 2005 following the single “Bullets”). The quartet, which plays a post-punk revival style influenced by both Joy Division and Echo & the Bunnymen, opened for Franz Ferdinand and released their second album, An End Has a Start, in 2007. Subsequently, Editors shifted their musical direction with the more electronic *In This Light and On This Evening* (2009), their second consecutive number-one album. After the departure of guitarist Chris Urbanowitz—replaced by two young up-and-comers—Editors headed to Nashville for a more powerful fourth album, *The Weight of Your Love* (2013). The next album, the dark-wave-influenced In Dream (2015), moved away from the post-punk sound that had been the trademark of singer Tom Smith’s quintet. Their sixth album, released in 2018, Violence, was produced by Leo Abrahams.
