MIA.

Mia (sometimes spelled MiA, mia. or MIA.) is a German electropop band from Berlin, founded in 1997 by singer Mieze Katz (Maria Mummert) and guitarist Andy Penn. Their songs are somewhere between Neue Deutsche Welle, punk and pop, with sometimes aggressive, sometimes fragile melodies. in 1999, they delivered the official song for the YOU youth fair with "Sugar My Skin" , before releasing the single "Factory City" in 2001, which became an insider tip in the club scene and landed them a contract with Sony Music. Their debut album Hieb & Stichfest was released in 2002 and reached number 43 in the German album charts. Their song "Hungriges Herz" for the preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 did not qualify for the final. The second album Stille Post was also released in 2004 and reached number 13 in Germany and number 19 in Austria. Zirkus (2006), the third album, went gold in Germany. The single "Tanz der Moleküle" became the band's most successful hit. The fourth album Mein Freund (2008) was again much more danceable than the melodic releases before it and reached number 4 in the German album charts. This was followed by the albums Tacheles (2012), Biste Mode (2015) and Limbo (2020). The band has repeatedly been politically active in the past, campaigning for renewable energies and supporting human rights organizations such as Pro Asyl and Amnesty International.
